Time Rifters | A Single Player Co-Op FPS Where I’m My Own Best Friend

With my busy schedule its hard for me to organize an online gaming session with other people. With changing schedules, different skill levels and free time, getting friends to play an online Co-Op game can sometimes be a chore. Time Rifters showed me other people are overrated and I can have an amazing time playing with myself (heh).[separator style_type=”none” top_margin=”20″ bottom_margin=”20″ sep_color=”#906bee” icon=”” width=”50%” class=”” id=””][fullwidth backgroundcolor=”” backgroundimage=”http://riftybusiness.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/TimeRifters-01.jpg” backgroundrepeat=”no-repeat” backgroundposition=”center top” backgroundattachment=”fixed” bordersize=”0px” bordercolor=”” borderstyle=”solid” paddingtop=”45px” paddingbottom=”45px” paddingleft=”25px” paddingright=”25px” menu_anchor=”” class=”” id=””][youtube id=”RI-AKdDipDg” width=”650″ height=”400″ autoplay=”yes” api_params=”” class=”center”][/fullwidth][separator style_type=”shadow” top_margin=”20″ bottom_margin=”35″ sep_color=”#906bee” icon=”” width=”50%” class=”” id=””][fullwidth backgroundcolor=”” backgroundimage=”” backgroundrepeat=”no-repeat” backgroundposition=”left top” backgroundattachment=”scroll” bordersize=”0px” bordercolor=”” borderstyle=”” paddingtop=”0px” paddingbottom=”0px” paddingleft=”0px” paddingright=”0px” menu_anchor=”” class=”” id=””][imageframe lightbox=”no” style_type=”none” bordercolor=”” bordersize=”0px” stylecolor=”” align=”center” link=”” linktarget=”_self” animation_type=”0″ animation_direction=”down” animation_speed=”0.1″ class=”” id=””] [/imageframe][separator style_type=”shadow” top_margin=”20″ bottom_margin=”20″ sep_color=”” icon=”” width=”” class=”” id=””][fusion_text]Time Rifters is a FPS arena arcade game for the Oculus Rift. You are given an arena where you are tasked with killing a boss or a number of enemies within a time limit. When the timer ends you are brought back to the beginning of the level with the gold you earned for purchasing weapon and upgrades. The main difference when you start the level again is that you are now a new character and have an AI partner who replays your last play session. This is repeated until your fourth playthrough of a level where you will have 4 copies of yourself taking down a huge boss or bunch of enemies. There are a number of upgrades and weapons with different properties and effects. The amount of weapons and upgrades to choose from makes strategizing and planning out you attack important. You can try to take out as many enemies as you can in separate playthroughs or you can work with past versions of yourself to strategically gang up on a boss or groups of enemies.

Time Rifters is a SteamVR game and works on VR headsets like the Oculus Rift. Playing the game on the DK2 I noticed that the game was specifically built with VR in mind. Unlike other VR games, the menus are all readable with large, bold, easy to read fonts. As for performance Time Rifters runs ridiculously smooth on the Oculus Rift. No lag, juddering or any hiccups occurred while playing, just booted up Steam, launched the game and done, no setup required. The controls work great, the characters respond well and Proton Studios even added a quick turn button as well as Mouse/Keyboard & gamepad support. I generally like to play FPS games with a Keyboard and mouse but the gamepad controls combined with head tracking aiming made using an Xbox 360 gamepad quite enjoyable. Along with Oculus Rift support Time Rifters will also work on traditional monitors so you can enjoy the game without head tracking.[/fusion_text][/fullwidth][three_fifth last=”no” class=”” id=””][imageframe lightbox=”yes” style_type=”bottomshadow” bordercolor=”” bordersize=”0px” stylecolor=”” align=”center” link=”” linktarget=”_self” animation_type=”0″ animation_direction=”down” animation_speed=”0.1″ class=”” id=””] [/imageframe][/three_fifth][two_fifth last=”yes” class=”” id=””][fusion_text]Since you are your own partner there is no multiplayer but there is a neat online component. Time RIfters is compatible with Steam Workshop and allows you to save and share replays. It’s a quick fun arcade type FPS built for VR. The “being you own partner” concept is a neat feature that’ll have you experimenting and playing the game differently. Do you play strategically and spend more on splash damage and range? Or do you play cathodically and invest it all on close range weapons and damage? You can all start playing with yourself next week, Time Rifters launches on Steam on Tuesday October 21 for $9.99 USD.[/fusion_text][separator style_type=”shadow” top_margin=”20″ bottom_margin=”20″ sep_color=”” icon=”” width=”” class=”” id=””][fusion_text]
